The First Study of PYCEE

This is a short screening survey to find Python Developers. In this study, you will be required to answer 6 simple questions about your programming experience with Python. Your submission will be rejected if you do not have programming experience with Python while claiming you have or your answers in this study and the second study have inconsistency.

In this study, we will collect your data. We will use your data in our current research study. Also, we will store and use your data in our future research. Your anonymized data may be made available to other scholars online at some point. We will maintain the anonymity of your answers by excluding your Prolific ID from the data in case we make your data available online. You cannot withdraw your consent or your data.

We will conduct the next study after screening Python developers in the current study. We aim to get your feedback on our Sublime Text plugins that provides customized compiler error messages. In the next study, you should complete 3 programming tasks using Python and answer some questions before, during, and after completing them. To complete the tasks in Python 3, you should connect to a remote computer via TeamViewer at a specific time, according to a plan. Besides, you should also have a microphone and connect to our Zoom room (voice only) while completing the tasks for our think-aloud part of our study. We will record your voice to analyze your thoughts. Your activities (screen) on the computer will be recorded. Participation in the second study will take no more than one hour and 20 minutes. Therefore, you should be able to complete our second study if you have Python experience.

The summary of the next study (feedback on customized Python error messages): 80 min / 12 pounds / Working on 3 Python tasks in TeamViewer / Software: TeamViewer and Zoom (voice-only) / We do not assess your programming ability (only interested in your feedback on customized Python error messages)
We will invite interested participants to the next study to book a time slot and run the study.
